President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has pledged to ensure the dignified and respectful treatment of all overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) during his three-day working visit to Berlin, Germany. Speaking to the Filipino community on Tuesday night, Marcos emphasized the government's commitment to safeguarding their rights and welfare through various programs and initiatives.

The President, accompanied by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and other officials, engaged with thousands of Filipinos, acknowledging their vital contributions to the Philippine economy. He highlighted the significant role of remittances, which hit a record high of US$33.5 billion last year, in bolstering the country's financial health.

Marcos pointed to several key efforts aimed at supporting OFWs, including the One Repatriation Command Center, a 24/7 OFW helpline (1348), a reintegration program for returnees, and educational assistance for their children. These initiatives are part of the broader endeavor to ensure the well-being and empowerment of Filipino workers abroad.

With approximately 35,000 Filipinos working in various sectors in Germany, Marcos's visit underscores the importance of the Filipino diaspora in fostering economic growth and cultural exchange between the Philippines and Germany. He also thanked the German government for its support in maintaining security and peace in the South China Sea, reiterating the Philippines' steadfast stance on its territorial claims.

Marcos's assurance of unwavering support and recognition of OFWs as "modern heroes" highlights the government's commitment to its citizens working abroad, acknowledging their sacrifices and contributions to the nation's prosperity.
