The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is gearing up for a surge of travelers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) during the upcoming Holy Week. Anticipating more than one million passengers, the MIAA has initiated its "OPLAN Biyaheng Ayos: Semana Santa 2024" from March 24 to March 31.

According to MIAA General Manager Eric Ines, this projection reflects a 15% increase compared to last year's figures. In the first half of March 2024 alone, NAIA witnessed 1,853,132 passengers, with daily averages ranging from 128,000 to 138,000.

During Holy Week, passenger traffic is expected to peak at 140,000 per day, almost matching pre-pandemic levels. In preparation, the NAIA assures the public of sufficient manpower, equipment, and operational facilities. Standby generator sets are in place to address power failures, while routine maintenance ensures reliability.

To cope with rising temperatures, the MIAA is upgrading terminal air conditioning units and coordinating with utilities for uninterrupted services. Additionally, adjustments to runway closure schedules have been made to accommodate increased flight activity.

Collaboration with government agencies within NAIA ensures efficient immigration and security procedures. Airlines are reminded to plan for contingencies and prioritize passenger care. Passengers are advised to arrive at least three hours before international departures and two hours before domestic flights to prevent delays.
