Dubai's taxi rates go up by 12 fils per kilometre after recent petrol hikes

Taxi fares in Dubai have increased by 12 fils per kilometre, a change driven by the rising cost of petrol over the past four months, reports the Khaleej Times. The Dubai Taxi Company PJSC (DTC) has updated their per kilometre charge from Dh1.97 to Dh2.09. This adjustment means that a typical 25-kilometre journey, such as from Al Barsha to Dubai World Trade Centre, will now cost about Dh3 more.

The increase is solely on the per kilometre rate, with the initial flag-down rate remaining unchanged. Similarly, fares for other public transport options, including the Dubai Metro, Tram, and public buses, have not been altered.

This is the first significant fare rise since July 2022, which also followed an increase in fuel prices when global oil prices were over $100 per barrel. Currently, oil prices are fluctuating between $83 and $87 per barrel.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has described the fare adjustments as a dynamic response to fluctuating local fuel costs, calculated based on fuel usage per kilometre.

In related developments, the Ajman Transport Authority has raised taxi fares by 4 fils per kilometre since March, while Sharjah has not introduced a fare hike, although bus fares on some intercity routes have increased.
