Esperanza Deangkinay's journey from Quezon province to Dubai 27 years ago wasn't just about seeking employment opportunities; it was about securing a better future for her family. Amidst personal tragedies and financial struggles, Esperanza's determination never wavered.

"I was only 12 years old when we lost our father, and my youngest sibling was only 3 years old at the time. My siblings and I had to strive to have a better life. We only had our grandmother and our mom to rely on," Esperanza recounted in a recent interview.

Despite facing hardships, including attending college with just five pesos in her pocket, Esperanza's resolve remained steadfast. She was inspired by the success stories of her cousins working abroad, envisioning a brighter future for herself and her family.

In Dubai, Esperanza explored various job opportunities, eventually finding her calling as a nanny despite having no prior experience. Her dedication to her work paid off when she was named "Nanny of the Year" in 2019 by Gawad Kasambahay.

"For me, it's amazing to be able to work as a Nanny for 25 years. Love changed my life; it's about love for my career, love for the children I work for. You would not be able to do this work just for money; you will need to have love. It has many challenges," Esperanza shared.

Beyond financial success, Esperanza found fulfillment in the relationships she built with the children she cared for. "When they call you Big Sister or Mama, and how they open up their problems to you. Even though they have graduated from college and are now professionals, they still hug me because they tell me I am not just a maid. I am a mother who took care of them," she expressed.

Her hard work enabled her to build her own house and start a house rental business, while also supporting her siblings through college. Despite her achievements, Esperanza remains committed to her life in Dubai, choosing to savor the fruits of her labor.

"My mother said, 'Why don't you come home?' I told her, 'I want to enjoy my life; it's my turn,'" Esperanza concluded, embodying the resilience and determination of Overseas Filipino workers striving for a better tomorrow.
