A new mobile application designed to offer comprehensive assistance and information to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) is set to launch in July, according to the Philippine News Agency.

OFW Party-list Representative Marissa Magsino announced that the OFW App will integrate the digitization efforts of various government agencies, providing access to welfare assistance, various benefits, and an emergency button that directly connects users to the Overseas Workers and Welfare Administration (OWWA).

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the OFW App was signed at the OFW Tulong at Serbisyo Center at Ayala Malls Manila Bay in Parañaque City on Tuesday. The signatories included Rep. Magsino, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy, and OWWA Administrator Arnaldo Ignacio. Also present to show support were Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and DICT Undersecretary for E-Government David Almirol.

“The OFW App will revolutionize the way OFWs access vital services and information, bringing essential support right at their fingertips,” Magsino stated.

Magsino highlighted that the app will enable OFWs to access services, emergency assistance, and critical information quickly. She acknowledged the technical support from DICT, which was crucial in moving the project forward. "Today, we are here with the signing of the MOU on this significant initiative," she added.

The app will initially undergo a simulation phase with select OFWs worldwide to gather feedback and ensure its features are fine-tuned. The formal launch will follow, incorporating user input.

Magsino expressed gratitude towards DICT and OWWA for their collaboration, emphasizing the importance of digital innovation in delivering services to OFWs. “Our world is fast evolving through digital technology, and we should be in sync with innovations in how we bring our services to our OFWs,” she said.
