The UAE has unveiled a new 10-year visa program named 'Blue Residency', aimed at recognizing and supporting individuals who have made significant contributions to environmental protection and sustainability. According to Khaleej Times, this initiative targets environmental activists, researchers, as well as members of international entities and organizations who have demonstrated exceptional efforts in sustainability both domestically and internationally.
Eligible candidates for the Blue Residency can apply through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security. Additionally, relevant authorities have the power to nominate distinguished individuals for this long-term residency.
During a Cabinet meeting, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, emphasized the interconnectedness of economic and environmental sustainability. "The sustainability of our economy has become linked to the sustainability of our environment," he stated.
This new visa scheme is part of the UAE's broader efforts to promote sustainability, which continues to be a key theme for the nation in 2024. The UAE typically offers two-year residency visas but has introduced several long-term residencies in recent years, including the Golden Visas in 2019 and Green Visas in 2022.
