Bangsamoro pop artist Shaira Moro has announced a successful conclusion to the copyright issue with Australian musician Lenka over the melody used in her song "Selos." The controversy centered around similarities between "Selos" and Lenka's 2008 hit "Trouble is a Friend." In a heartfelt video posted on her Facebook page, Moro shared the resolution of the dispute, reassuring fans and followers of a positive outcome.
"No case was filed against us," Moro stated, detailing the peaceful negotiations with Lenka's camp that led to an amicable agreement. "Wala pong kaso ang isinampa sa amin. Sa katunayan, naging mahinahon at mapayapa ang pag-uusap namin ng kampo ni Lenka at nauwi po ito sa pagkakaroon ng kasunduan," she explained. This settlement paves the way for "Selos" to be re-released on streaming platforms, alongside Moro's upcoming music.
Moro expressed her gratitude towards the unwavering support from her fans and the music community, emphasizing the broader significance of the resolution for Bangsamoro artists and the Filipino music scene. "Sana po ngayon ay maging masaya na lamang po tayo dahil hindi lang naman po ito para sa akin, para rin po dito sa mga kapwa kong Bangsamoro artists at sa mga kapwa kong Pilipino," she remarked.
Reflecting on the initial backlash she faced, Moro opened up about the hurt caused by negative comments online. She highlighted the ordeal as a learning experience for her as a local artist new to the music industry's complexities. Despite the challenges, she and her team aimed for a quiet resolution to avoid escalating tensions, asking for understanding from their critics.
"Selos" had previously garnered extensive attention on streaming platforms and social media, leading to widespread creative engagement, including dance covers on TikTok. Though "Selos" shares its melody with "Trouble is a Friend," the songs diverge in lyrics and themes, showcasing Moro's unique artistic expression.
