Record-breaking rainfall hits UAE, breaks 75-year data record

The UAE experienced unprecedented rainfall on Tuesday, April 16, marking the heaviest downpour within a 24-hour period since records began in 1949.
According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the highest recorded rainfall occurred in the "Khatm Al Shakla" area in Al Ain, reaching a staggering 254 mm in less than a day. This surpassed the previous record of 287.6 mm set on March 9, 2016, at NCM's Shuwaib station.
While the deluge presented significant challenges for authorities and residents alike, concerted efforts were made to ensure the safety of everyone affected.
The NCM emphasized the exceptional nature of this weather event, noting its potential to further increase the UAE's annual rainfall average and bolster the nation's groundwater reserves.
Unstable weather conditions, stemming from a low surface pressure extension, began impacting the country on Monday, with two waves of inclement weather passing through on Tuesday.
